Easy Come, Easy Go: Chris "Jesus" Ferguson Takes the Chip Lead From Kofi Farkye on Day 4
Day 4 came to an end with 20 players remaining after six levels of play — an extra level was added so tomorrow’s action didn’t run through the night. Yes, the structure is that good.
The big story was Chris "Jesus" Ferguson rising to the chiplead by taking out former chipleader Kofi Farkye. Farkye built up a huge stack himself by calling a Kevin Saul bluff late on Day 2. He carried that momentum for two days, until he tried a big bluff against Ferguson.
Farkye raised from early position to 24,000, Ferguson reraised from late position to 76,000, and Farkye called. They both checked to the turn on a board of [AsQd6d7d], Farkye bet 120,000, and Ferguson called. The river card is the [3h], and Farkye moved all in for 600,000, covering Ferguson, who called with [AdKc]. Farkye had nothing more than [6c5c] (pair of sixes). That knocked Farkye to the bottom of the chip counts, and he was eliminated within the hour.
That pot took Chris Ferguson up over a million in chips, and he continued to build until he finished the day as chipleader with 1.7 million. Here are the top five:
1. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson – 1,721,000
2. Payman Arjang – 1,488,000
3. Chris Karagulleyan – 1,146,000
4. Xuan Nguyen – 1,130,000
5. Binh Nguyen – 1,040,000
While he finished near the bottom of the chip counts (17th out of 20), this recap wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Teddy "Iceman" Monroe. Monroe was short-stacked all day, and doubled up five or six different times to stay alive. Do yourself a favor and check out the video where Amanda Leatherman awards him the Blue Diamond Almonds Bold Player of the Day. (In a rare two-fer, Chris Ferguson was a co-Player of the Day for busting Farkye and finishing as chipleader.)
Day 5 begins tomorrow at 12:00 noon, as the final 20 players battle for six seats at the televised WPT final table. Return to WorldPokerTour.com for live coverage of all the action, including video interviews with Amanda Leatherman.
