Nice Fake-Out Mr. Chiu

Jul 13, 2007

|:img:3392,R:| Mike Wattel opens the pot for a 6,000 chip raise from the cut-off. Both David Chiu in the small blind and Victor Ramdin in the big blind call.

The flop comes [Kd7h2d]. Chiu checks, Ramdin bets 13,000 and Wattel announces a raise. Then after Wattel places the initial 13,000 chips in the pot Chiu says call and puts his money in the center. The dealer informs Chiu that a raise is coming and David takes him money back. Wattel compleates the raise and puts 33,000 total in the pot.

Chiu then thinks for a long time before announcing raise. Strange, for a man who was just going to flat call a moment ago. Chiu lines up a few stacks of chips and pushes 70,000 into the pot. Ramdin folds and Wattel flashes two red aces before they go into muck.

Chiu shows pocket sevens for the set and takes down the pot. He claims that he really did mean to flat call, but I guess we’ll never know.
