Two Bigs Hands Lead to Dean Murphy's Demise

Apr 29, 2016

With 3,500 in the pot and a flop of Diamond 6Spade 6Heart A, the under-the-gun player checks and Dean Murphy bets 1,700 from early position. Tim Reilly calls from the cutoff, the UTG player folds, and the dealer burns and turns the Heart 9.

Murphy bets 3,100, Reilly calls, and the Spade 5 completes the board on the river. Murphy opts to check and then folds when Reilly bets 9,500.

Not long after, Murphy sees his tournament life extinguished after he gets his chips in on a Heart 2Club 6Diamond 4 flop against Nier Shapiro, who holds Spade 6Diamond 6. The Diamond Q turn isn’t harmful to Murphy, but the Heart 6 river certainly is as Shapiro improves to quads.

Nier Shapiro – 66,000
Tim Reilly – 46,000
Dean Murphy – Busted
