When play kicked off on Monday at WPT Choctaw, Kamran Munaf looked to be on his way to the final table. He now finds himself with some work to do.
Munaf sat second in chips at the first break of the day with 3.4 million, but he then lost a massive pot when his pocket jacks lost to Eric Bunch’s pocket aces.
The 34-year-old Dallas man began playing in high school with friends and now plays recreationally when not working at the roofing company he’s owned since 2009. When not managing the business, poker is his hobby and he has more than $57,000 in tournament winnings.
“I’m an avid player, but poker’s not my main source of income,” Munaf said.
While he has a sixth-place finish in a WSOP Circuit event, Munaf is hoping he can top that here. Despite the setback today after the break, he’s still hoping to make his way into the final six for the televised WPT final table.
Most recently, Munaf found a double against Josh Kay to put himself back into the thick of things.
“It would mean a lot to me,” he said. “This is my third WPT. I’ve put a lot of training and effort into poker and it would be amazing to final table this.”
