McKeehen Chips Up Into Six Figures

Sep 30, 2017

Joe McKeehen just lost a small pot and won a big one, and now he’s up over 110,000.

The first hand begins with McKeehen raising from under the gun to 2,000 and getting two callers, then continuing when checked to for 2,000 on a Club 2Heart 6Spade 6 flop. Only one opponent in the big blind calls, then both remaining players check the Club 6 turn. On the Spade K river the big blind leads for 4,300 and after some thought McKeehen calls, then mucks after he’s shown Club QSpade Q.

On the very next hand, Scott Montgomery raises to 1,800 from the cutoff and James Hughes calls from the button. McKeehen then makes it 6,200 to go from the big blind. Montgomery quickly folds and Hughes calls, and the flop comes all clubs — Spade QClub 2Club 8. McKeehen leads for 5,200 and Hughes calls, then after the Club J turn McKeehen checks. Hughes goes all in, and after McKeehen gets a count he sees the bet is for 26,425.

McKeehen considers a short while and calls with Club QHeart 4, and Hughes shows Spade KSpade 10. The river was a blank, failing to fill Hughes’s straight draw, and he’s out.
