There’s been a spirit of healthy competition between the two players at the top of the WPTDeepStacks Europe Player of the Year standings. Omar Lakhdari still leads, courtesy of his two second-place finishes in Cannes and Vilamoura, but Tobias Peters showed he’s still alive in the race after picking up another cash in Brussels. This was his third overall, after final tabling WPTDS Amsterdam and a runner-up finish in Valkenburg.
The pair were seen speaking to one another on multiple occasions, and we’ve been keeping our eye on both of them.
We caught up with Peters who explained that he picked up a hefty pot in the last hand before the short break. According to him he opened and got three callers including both blinds. The small blind bet 17,500 on a flop and Peters was the only caller.
The turn was a and the small blind check-called 18,000. The river was another and the small blind check-called another bet of 28,500. Peters turned over pocket nines and took down the pot.
Meanwhile Matiss Celmins raised to 7,000 in the cutoff and Lakhdari (pictured above) three-bet all in for 39,000 from the big blind.
Celmins asked for a count before calling.
