Chipleader Joe Cashen Reaches 280K Against Marcia Kuntz

Mar 22, 2019

After winning his first hand of the tournament when he arrived less than 10 minutes before the dinner break, Elia Ahmadian raises from middle position to 1,700 in his second hand. Marcia Kuntz reraises from the cutoff to 5,000, and chipleader Joe Cashen calls from the big blind. Ahmadian folds, losing his first chips of the day.

The flop comes Heart JHeart 10Heart 8, Cashen checks, Kuntz bets 10,000, and Cashen calls. The turn card is the Club 4, and both players check.

The river card is the Diamond Q, and they check again. Kuntz shows Heart ADiamond 10 for a pair of tens, but Cashen turns over Spade AHeart Q to win the pot with a pair of queens.

Joe Cashen  –  280,000  (350 bb)
Marcia Kuntz  –  56,000  (70 bb)

Kuntz points out that she also had the ace-high flush draw, and then Cashen points out he had a gutshot straight-flush draw, and wistfully talks about how sweet it would have been for him if the nine of hearts hit the river.
