Photo: David Somers (standing, center) stood by his mother for support when she was short-stacked and all in on the Money Bubble.
Surprisingly, there were two pairs of mothers and sons who entered this event.
First, Tina Panichi and her son John both played on Day 1B, but unfortunately neither survived the day.
One person who did survive Day 1 was Judith Beilan, who bagged up 93,000 (23 big blinds). The next day, her son David Somers played, and he followed her lead by bagging 178,000 (45 big blinds).
Both made it to the Money Bubble, which lasted a very long time (16 hands). In Hand #5, Judith got it all in for 4 big blinds with pocket jacks, and they held up for her to double up. Both of them survived the Money Bubble, joining the rare club of family members who cashed in the same WPTDeepStacks event.
Unfortunately, Judith was eliminated in 36th place, earning $1,995, but David is still in the field with about 170K in chips.
