For the second year in a row, the World Poker Tour returns to Taiwan and continues to make strides in the Asia-Pacific region, further expanding the growth of poker all over the world. Since August 8 and until August 23, 2023, the popular WPT Prime format is taking place in the heart of Taipei City and all eyes are set on the 2023 WPT Prime NT$33,000 Main Event.

From August 17 to 19, 2023, each of the three starting days is set to get underway at 11.30 a.m. local time. It is the second edition of the mid-stakes tour on Taiwanese soil and the festival once again takes place in cooperation with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) in Taipei City.

Poker enthusiasts from near and far can take advantage of a new location in the heart of the capital as the new Asia Poker Arena offers more than 50 tables in the main tournament area. In November 2022, the nearby CTP Club hosted the WPT Prime stop for the first time and reeled in 877 entries.

In a field filled with poker enthusiasts from the Asia-Pacific region, it was French poker pro Marc Inizan who came out on top of a heads-up duel with local player Kai Jan Chou. Both earned the biggest portion of the NT$ 25,196,600 ($809,133) prize pool with Inizan taking home NT$4,326,600 and the WPT Prime Main Event trophy.

All key details for the second WPT Prime Taiwan Main Event remain the same as the participants receive 30,000 in starting chips and play levels of 40 minutes each across the Day 1s. The three flights whittle each field down to the money as one in eight (1-in-8) entries will secure a portion of the prize pool (approximately 12.5%) before bagging and tagging.

Unlimited re-entry is allowed until the start of level seven, after which the late registration period for each Day 1 ends. In case players advance through multiple starting days, they will carry over their larger stack into Day 2 on August 20, 2023, and receive an additional min-cash for all subsequent efforts in the money.

On the penultimate tournament day, the survivors of all three flights combine. Action clocks will be put in place at the start of Day 2 and will be used until the completion of the tournament, giving each contestant 30 seconds to act. Time bank extensions will be granted at the start of Day 2, on the three table redraw and prior to the start of final table. Once the tournament reaches the heads-up stage, the level duration will be reduced to 30 minutes each.

Besides the coveted WPT Prime Main Event title, several Side Event trophies are up for grabs as well. Notable winners throughout the series so far included Peng Wen Su, Anson Tsang, Wei Tsung Chen, Po Wen Fang, Alan Wong, and Graeme Siow, Thibaut Blondel, Vamerdino Magsakay, and Julian Warhurst.

Many of them are expected to also compete in the flagship Main Event and you can follow all of the updates for it right here on WPT.com.
