Day 1a chip leader Campbell Ashton
The first of two starting days has concluded for the 2024 WPT Australia Championship Event. A total of 140 unique players and 49 additional re-entries brought the Day 1a field up to 189 entries for the AUD $8,000 buy-in and 65 players advanced to Day 2.
Upon completion of ten levels of 60 minutes each at The Star Gold Coast, Campbell Ashton turned his 50,000 starting stack into 374,000 and claimed the top spot ahead of Yan Zhong Bosco Li (328,500). Daniel Neilson (307,000) and Adam Kharman (302,000) were among those who bowed out and re-entered successfully to advance with top five stacks.
Mixed game specialist and two-time WSOP bracelet winner James Obst showcased his prowess with two cards on home soil and bagged up a healthy stack of 291,500. Likewise, WPT Global ambassador Angel Guillen advanced with 250,500 and finished the opening flight in the overnight top ten as well.
