Travis Egbert Caps Epic 2024 Level-Up With WPT Alpha8 Win, $684K

Dec 20, 2024

Travis Egbert officially made it a $1 million year on Thursday, winning the $25,000 WPT Alpha8 event at the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas festival. The $684,684 first-place prize takes what was already a career year for Egbert and kicks it into overdrive.

For most of 2024, Egbert played as though he was the king of Northern California’s Thunder Valley. At that property alone over the last 12 months, Egbert finished third at WPT Rolling Thunder and won three WSOP Circuit rings, including a previous career-best $214,565 cash in the WSOPC Circuit Main Event in October.

Those performances would’ve been enough to have made it a career year for the 24-year-old from Santa Rosa, but clearly it was only a matter of time before Egbert made another major leap.

Following second- and third-place finishes in other side events during the WPT World Championship festival, Egbert entered the biggest buy-in tournament of his life, taking on some all-time crushers and more than holding his own. Egbert beat out names like Sam Soverel, Sean Winter, Igor Kurganov, Shannon Shorr and Brian Rast, who each finished among the top 10 of this tournament.

“I just felt confident,” Egbert said of his decision. “I like playing in tough fields with tough opponents. I like every tournament. So it was kind of just a last-minute decision, and I was also in the race for the Player of the Series, so that was another factor that made me jump in there.”

After taking over that top spot in the Player of the Festival race at Wynn Las Vegas with his WPT Alpha8 win, Egbert wasted little time after wrapping up his media responsibilities and ran over to enter Day 1B of a $3,000 side event that was just about to end its dinner break.

There’s a good chance we might see Egbert play more big events moving, too, as he takes his newly found winnings and looks to spin it up even more.

“It means I can comfortably shot take more,” said Egbert, “And play some more $25Ks, if I want to.”
