Photo: Steven Michaelis (center) rises and pumps his fist after he retakes the lead on the turn, while Moon Kim (right) goes thru the same emotional roller coaster in reverse. The river card would change things again, eliminating Michaelis from the tournament.
Just one hand after Steven Michaelis raised, Moon Kim reraised, and Michaelis showd an ace before folding, Michaelis tries again, opening to 26,000. Kim is next to act and reraises aain, making it around 120,000 to play.
Michaelis is jokingly incredulous with Kim, asking, "Really?’ When action is back on Michaelis, he moves all-in for around 260,000 and Kim calls.
Kim shows [AdQh] and Michaelis has the best of it with [AsKh]. The [QdJs5h] flop prompts a celebratory "Yes" from Kim, but Michaelis is quick to point out it isn’t over yet.
It isn’t, as the turn brings the [Ks], giving Michaelis the advantage in the hand. The dramatics aren’t over yet though, as the rive rbrings the [Qc] to give Moon trip queens and send Michaelis to the rail as the first elimination of the day.
"I did my best," the local grinder tells his friends on the rail. "Sorry, San Jose!"
Moon Kim – 1,300,000 (163 BBs)
Steven Michaelis – eliminated in 20th place ($22,420)
