Registration remains open until the beginning of Level 7 (about 1:45 pm), but there has been a different sort of late arrival today — players who survived Day 1 but didn’t return on time for Day 2.
Play began at 12:00 noon, and 25 minutes into play, three players still hadn’t shown up yet. One arrived at 12:25 pm, and then Ardavan Yazdi (who began the day with only 19,400) took his seat at 12:42 pm.
The last arrival was Jason Richter, who began the day with 48,100. As his chip stack was being blinded off, Matt Stout was asking, "What could he be doing that’s more important than this?" Stout’s leading theories were that the player had been arrested or was passed out drunk.
Richter finally arrived at 12:57 pm, and his stack had been blinded down to 46,100 — a loss of 2,000 in chips. Stout asked him if he had a cool story, but Richter said he had simply overslept.
