Adam Schiffer raises from middle position, Tom Lee reraises another 65,000 from late position, and Schiffer moves all in. Lee goes into the tank for several minutes, talking most of the time.
Lee asks Schiffer, “Ten-three?” Schiffer remains still and quiet, with his head down to avoid eye contact. Andrew Frankenberger and Jonathan Little, seated near Lee, begin laughing.
Lee defends his read. “He did it yesterday!” This only makes Frankenberger and Little laugh more. Lee continues to defend his comment, and Frankenberger says, “I believe you.” Little says that he remembered Schiffer playing 10-4 at some point yesterday, and Little believes he won the hand with it.
Lee then starts talking about his own hand. “I don’t have much of a hand. Do you want me to call?” Again, this makes Frankenberger and Little laugh. Lee says, “Normally, I don’t call, because I don’t have much of a hand.” This is making Frankenberger and Little laugh even harder.
Finally, Lee says, “Okay, I call.” But he’s been talking so much, Schiffer appears to have tuned him out completely. A few other players tell Schiffer that he’s been called, and he looks up and turns over [QhQs]. Lee turns over [AcQd] and says, “I told you my hand wasn’t very good.”
The flop comes [Ad10s5h], and Schiffer lets out a “Damn!” The turn card pairs the board with the [As], which elicits an even stronger reaction from Schiffer — “Oh my god!” Because Lee holds a queen in his hand, Schiffer is drawing dead. (We apologize for the error earlier, where this post stated that Schiffer had outs headed to the river. As most of you know, Schiffer was drawing dead on the turn.)
The meaningless river card is the [6c], and Tom Lee wins the pot with trip aces to double up in chips. Schiffer walks away from the table to cool off while the dealer counts stacks and pays off the bet. Remember, in addition to this bad beat, he had pocket kings cracked by Jared Jaffee’s A-Q suited just two hands earlier. Not a good start to Day 4 for Adam Schiffer, and one player says, “He built up this great image where everyone thinks he’s bluffing, and then he traps them with strong hands — and loses.”
As for Lee, Frankenberger and Little both say they’re shocked that he took so long to call with A-Q, saying they would have called quickly in that spot. Lee just shrugs. Tyler Cornell, on the other side of the table, jokes to Lee, “I really thought you had aces there.”
Tom Lee – 745,000 (62 bb)
Adam Schiffer – 175,000 (14 bb)
