There are a lot of tough tables in this field, but this one caught our eye even though it is fairly early in the breaking order. Here’s the lineup, which includes three former WPT winners.
Seat 1. Tony Dunst – 12,000
Seat 2. Dwyte Pilgrim (WPT winner) – 67,500
Seat 3. Daniel Alaei (WPT winner) – 67,000
Seat 4. empty
Seat 5. Dan Shak – 51,000
Seat 6. Olivier Busquet (WPT winner) – 80,000
Seat 7. Mark Harding – 100,000
Seat 8. David Oppenheim – 21,000
Seat 9. Matt Woodward – 111,000
And now, some of the action …
Daniel Alaei raises from the cutoff to 1,700, Dan Shak reraises from the button to 4,000, and Alaei calls. The flop comes [Kh9h5c], Alaei checks, Shak bets 6,500, and Alaei check-raises to 14,000. Shak tanks for about a minute before he folds, and Alaei takes the pot.
A few minutes later, with the board showing [AsKs4cKd], Dwyte Pilgrim bets 2,075 from middle position, and Daniel Alaei raises to 6,500. Pilgrim folds, and Alaei takes this pot as well.
Dan Shak raises from early position to 1,800, Dwyte Pilgrim reraises from the big blind to 5,500, and Shak reraises to 15,500. Pilgrim tanks for a while before he folds [QhQs]. Shak doesn’t show anything as he takes the pot, and a few moments later, Pilgrim says, "I don’t have to win every pot. I’m here to win the tournament."
A few minutes later, David Oppenheim raises from early position to 1,600, and Matt Woodward calls from middle position. Both players check to the turn on a board of [Js4s2h4d], Oppenheim checks, Woodward bets 2,300, and Oppenheim calls. The river card is the [Qs], Oppenheim checks, Woodward bets 5,000, and Oppenheim thinks for a while before he folds.
And that action takes us to the chip counts posted above. A few minutes later, short stack Tony Dunst was eliminated.
