A record field of 750 entries for an open World Poker Tour event in the Asia-Pacific Region is whittled down all the way to the final table in the  Season 18 WPT Cambodia $1,100 Main Event at the NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh and a champion will be crowned today in the biggest live poker event of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Nine hopefuls from six different countries are aiming to engrave their name into the history books of poker in Cambodia and take home the lion’s share of the $727,500 prize pool. Malaysia’s Kai Fu Wong leads the pack with 4,700,000, Brian Tougias follows in second place with 4,140,000 and Singapore’s Alex Lee (pictured above) is third with 3,415,000. Fourth on Singapore’s all-time money list with more than $800k in live cashes, Lee may very well be the odds-on favorite to win the title but it won’t be an easy ride.

Fourth in chips is Kue Seong “Michael” Tchong from Melbourne, Australia. He has an Aussie Millions ring to his name and defeated none other than Mustapha Kanit in heads-up for his career-best score of A$138,180 one year ago, but a victory here in Cambodia would top that result by a small margin.

Jae Kyung “Simba” Sim is another familiar face of the Asia-Pacific region with plenty of results and experience to his name with more than $700k in cashes, he returns with a stack of 1,630,000. Fellow countrywoman Jiyoung Kim came out on top of 968 entries in the 2019 WSOP $1,000 Ladies Championship and will be the short stack with 695,000, good enough for 11 and a half big blinds.

The only remaining European in the field is Frenchman Aladin Reskallah with a stack of 2,570,000. Besides Lee, another two players from Singapore made it to the final table in Si Yang Phua (1,650,000),  and Yong Cheong Foo (1,040,000), who have 28 and 17 big blinds at their disposal.

There will be 49:14 minutes remaining when the action resumes at 1 p.m. local time once the player introductions in the Ballroom of the casino are complete.

South Korea’s Kim also has the chance to take over the top spot in the 2018 WPT Asia-Pacific Player of the Year if he wins the tournament, as he already finished 17th in the WPT Korea Main Event in Incheon two months ago. All other players can get even in points with Hari Varma and Hamish Crawshaw but will require an additional top 30 finish in the remainder of the season to have a shot at the POY title.
