A Dramatic Three-Way All-In Situation Ends in a Chop

Feb 21, 2020

With the board showing Club AClub JHeart 10Spade K on the turn, Daniel Andrei bets 8,800 from the small blind, and the big blind moves all in for 15,000.

Moe Manzoor calls under the gun, and Andrei moves all in over the top for 99,300. Manzoor calls all in for a little less than that, and everyone turns over their cards:

Daniel Andrei:  Club QClub 3  (ace-high straight, queen-high flush draw)
Moe Manzoor:  Club KClub 5  (king-high flush draw)
Big Blind:  Heart KDiamond Q  (ace-high straight)

At this point, another player points out that the first all-in bet wasn’t enough to re-open the action to a raise. (Per TDA rules, “an all-in wager that is less than a full raise does not reopen the betting to a player who has already acted.”)

So a floorperson is called over, and rules that there has been significant action since the mistake, including “accepted action.” Andrei’s all-in shove shouldn’t have been allowed, but Manzoor accepted the action by calling and turning over his cards. So the action stands as it is.

Andrei and the big blind have identical straights and are poised to chop the main pot, with Andrei winning the side pot. Manzoor needs a club to scoop the entire pot with a king-high flush, while a queen on the river would put an ace-high straight on the board to chop the pot.

The river card is — the Diamond Q.

A big, dramatic situation fizzles out into a three-way chop.

Daniel Andrei  –  115,000  (115 bb)
Moe Manzoor  –  90,000  (90 bb)
