A Few More Stories

Jan 8, 2007

We’re down to 46 players now, and a few previously unmentioned stories are starting to work their way to the surface. These will be worth keeping an eye on in the event their protagonists manage to survive the day:

Robert Mizrachi is fighting to come out from his brother’s shadow. “The Grinder” was the 2006 Card Player player of the year and has two WPT championships to his credit. A win here would prove Robert’s getting by on more than name recognition.

Steve Paul-Ambrose, last year’s winner, was dismissed as a fluke. Even he is self-depricating when talking about his victory here a year ago. Now, he’s sitting on a very real stack, making the possibility of his legitimization in the public’s eyes a true possibility.

– Justin Bonomo is emerging as he prognosticated. Bonomo wrote on his website that he’d planned on playing as many tournaments in 2007 and expected a top ten player of the year finish He’s backing up his words with a strong performance here, his stack presently around 600,000.

– The denizens of the 2+2 online community are dominating. The largest poker forum on the net, they’ve got about half of the top ten players right now in their number.

– Victor Ramdin is trying to complete an improbable comeback from T9,000 yesterday. One of the last remaining TV pros, Rmdin’s been up and down all day.
