“Of course, normally I win it,” Tobias Peters joked with the dealer at his table when he was just sitting down and waiting for opponents to get started on Day 1A of the WPTDeepStacks Marrakech Main Event. The Dutchman became the player of the year in the inaugural WPTDeepStacks Europe Season in 2017 and is back in Morocco to aim for more glory at the poker tables.
“Last year it all happened suddenly and I don’t really care about the ranking this time, Peters admitted and instead sets his main focus on winning titles and trophies.
Despite taking part in many of the stops of the newly established tour, it is the first time for Peters in Marrakech. However, the Dutchman knows what to expect and also understands his opponents as he does speak some French.
“Mostly. I have to think about it, if I have to use difficult sentences and not the standard ones, it will be difficult.
It is not the first time for Peters to play against French players, though, as he does so regularly on international tournaments and also near his home soil.
“Of course, I have played with many French guys in Belgium before,” Peters said. “It is loose,” he added when asked about the playing style.
“You have to adapt to it. You get a lot of value from medium hands,” Peters further said.
Coming up next for the Dutchman are the WSOP Circuit and World Series of Poker Europe, along with WPTDeepStacks in Brussels and Deauville. Four other friends also made the trip to Marrakech along with Peters, and among them is Danny van Zijp.
The hours and days to come will show if Peters will be able to take another shot at a WPTDeepStacks title. A victory in Morocco would also put him among the contenders for the leader board once more, which is currently led by Christos Economides. The following prizes are up for grabs for the top three at the end of the season in May 2019.
1st place: €10,000 in WPT BUY-IN credits + special Player of the Year trophy
2nd place: €3,500 in WPT BUY-IN credits
3rd place: €1,500 in WPT BUY-IN credits
WPT tournament buy-in credits can be used in any global WPT event, including the WPT Main Tour, WPTDeepStacks, WPT500, and WPT Special Events.
