Aces vs. Kings for Jared Griener, Followed by Aces vs. Aces vs. Jacks vs. KdQd to Eliminate Sung Baek

May 25, 2017

Board

Jared Griener gets it all in preflop with X AX A against another player’s X KX K, and the best hand holds up for Griener to double up, knocking his opponent down to just a few hundred in chips.

Jared Griener  –  29,500  (590 bb)

A couple hands later, Griener raises from middle position to 150, Sung Baek reraises from middle position to 2,625, and the hijack (the same player who lost aces-vs.-kings to Griener) calls all in for 250. Khang Nguyen reraises from the button to 5,000. Kayvon Motahed moves all in from the small blind, and Griener folds. Baek calls all in, and Nguyen calls, covering the other players.

Here are their cards in descending order of chip counts:

Khang Nguyen:  Spade AClub A
Kayvon Motahed:  Heart ADiamond A
Sung Baek:  Spade JHeart J
Hijack:  Diamond KDiamond Q

The flop comes Diamond 10Club 8Club 2, and the aces stay out in front. The turn card is the Heart Q, giving the hijack a pair of queens and Baek a gutshot straight draw.

But the river card is the Club 3, and the aces hold up for Nguyen and Motahed to win the pot, eliminating Baek and the hijack in the process. (After the hand, Griener says he folded queen-jack of clubs, which would have won the entire pot with a club flush and eliminated four players.)

Khang Nguyen  –  23,500  (470 bb)
Kayvon Motahed  –  22,000  (440 bb)
Sung Baek  –  Eliminated

Baek quickly re-entered, and he is now seated at a neighboring table with a starting stack of 15,000.

Sung Baek  –  15,000  (300 bb)
