Rishabh Luthra won his seat in the WPT500 Las Vegas event by topping the competition in an online qualifier tournament run by Adda52. The 23-year-old lives in New Delhi, India, and he plays poker for fun while preparing to be an investment banker. Luthra has tripled his starting stack of 15,000 since the start of play, and you could tell he was excited and ready to go as one of the first players seated in the field earlier this morning. We caught up with Luthra during a break in play on Day 1A at the Aria Resort & Casino, and he talked about his first trip to Las Vegas as well as living his dream by playing in a WPT event.
WPT: How excited were you to win your WPT500 seat in the Adda52 online qualifier event?
Luthra: That was great. I always had an obsession for poker. I always wanted to play a WPT. It was a dream, so it’s good to be here. Poker is competition in its purest sense. Playing your skills against the skills of other players. It’s good to be playing against pros and giving them a run for their money.
WPT: How has living your dream gone so far today?
Luthra: It’s going good. I’ve had some good hands, and I have a soft table so it’s been really good. But the last 15 minutes haven’t been going as well for me. I lost about 15k. I hope I qualify for Day 2, I’m looking forward to it.
WPT: Is this your first trip to Vegas? What has been your initial impression?
Luthra: Yes, it’s my first trip to Vegas. I just landed last night, so I haven’t seen much of it. I just jumped right into it, but I’m staying here for a week.
WPT: How long have you been playing poker?
Luthra: I’ve been playing poker online for about seven or eight years. But I haven’t really played many tournaments. I have played in a lot of live games in New Delhi, but it’s mostly online poker. I intend to be an investment banker soon, so I play poker for fun.
