Alexandre Gomes Eliminated

Aug 23, 2009

Alexandre Gomes took a big hit to his stack early, and wasn’t able to recover.

With the board showing [KcJh6c10c], his opponent bets, Gomes moves all in, and his opponent calls with [4c3c]. Gomes shows [AcQh] for an ace-high straight with the ace-high flush draw — Gomes needs a club on the river to stay alive. But the last card is a blank, and Alexandre Gomes is eliminated from the tournament.

Alexandre Gomes won the most recent WPT event, the Bellagio Cup, and was hoping to become the first back-to-back winner in WPT history. To this point, nobody has ever won multiple WPT titles at the same venue, nor has anyone ever won back-to-back WPT events. That trend will continue at least until the next stop on the tour, at Borgata.
