Ana Marquez Talks Short Days and the WPTEUC in Berlin

Ana Marquez is in Berlin for the first-ever WPT European Championship festival. She began her trip by playing in the WPTDeepStacks Main Event, before taking to the felt in the bounty tournament that took place on Tuesday. Wednesday marked the start of the WPT European Championship Main Event, and Marquez is in the field for Day 1a. She spoke to WPT.com briefly on her trip and the event.

“I’m just chilling today,” said Marquez, who had worked her starting stack of 30,000 up to 50,000 when we spoke with her.

Marquez, like all others in the field for Day 1a, was looking at about a nine-hour day, when you factor in the eight one-hour levels and breaks. Some may have wanted a dinner break thrown into the mix, but Marquez was fine without one.

“I like this type of structure,” Marquez said. “I mean, it’s OK to have a dinner break on days like this, but I’d much rather play all the levels without one. It just means that you have more time for dinner after the tournament has finished, and you can relax a bit more.”

When we spoke with her, there was just under a level and a half remaining in Day 1a and Marquez looked set to book her place in the Day 2 field of the WPT European Championship Main Event.

“The different structure doesn’t really change how I play, but when you have a long day of playing you have to relax and chill a lot more,” Marquez said. “You have to relax and be more patient. On a short day, you know you need to play good so you just have to focus and I feel like I play a little better on short days.”

The WPT European Championship is the first time the World Poker Tour has visited Germany, and Marquez isn’t the only one who is welcoming the WPT Main Tour to this neck of the woods.

“I love Berlin, this city is great,” Marquez said with excitement. “I like this casino. The hotels are mostly all around the corner. It means that you can go back on break and rest. It’s a great stop and I love that the WPT Main Tour has come back to Europe, and to Germany!”
