Antonio Matias Loses Out to Simao Gomes

Antonio Matias

Simao Gomes raised to 350 from the hijack. The cutoff and button called, before Antonio Matias called in the big blind.

Matias has over 700,000 in career earnings, the lion’s share of which came back in 2009 when he took down the first EPT on Portuguese soil for €404,793.

Matias checked a flop of Diamond 7Heart 8Heart 5 and it checked around to the button who bet 700. Matias and Gomes both called.

The turn was the Club 10 and this time Matias bet 1,050. Gomes and the third player in the hand both called. The river was the Spade 7 and Matias bet 1,550. Gomes quickly called and the other player folded.

Matias turned over Spade 8Spade 9 for a pair of eights and a missed straight draw, while Gomes showed Diamond 10Heart J for an equally missed gutshot straight draw, but a better pair.
