Liv Boeree is really going through the wringer today. She has just returned from dinner and the stack that was awaiting her was the biggest she has seen since she started. Then in one of her very first hands she is back to square one.
The action checks through to Boeree on the button and she makes a raise to 1,300. Gareth Kalil is having a massage in the big blind and he makes the call. The dealer produces a flop containing more diamonds than a South African mine – [Ad] [Kd] [Td] – Kalil checks, Boeree bets 1,500, Kalil makes it 4,000, Boeree makes it 8,200 and Kalil calls. The turn was only ever going to help one or the other, when we saw the fourth diamond [4d]. Kalil obviously liked it because he effectively put Boeree all-in with a 10,000 bet. The eyebrows raise slightly on Boeree’s face and you can tell she is going to fold. Fold she does and Kalil takes the pot.
Kalil ~ 85,000
Boeree ~ 12,000
