The WPT500 London is British pro Katie Swift’s first taste of a World Poker Tour event, and we grabbed her for a quick chat about what she thought about the tournament and its structure.
“It’s a nice format and structure; the levels have plenty of play in them. Earlier I was at a juicy with what I thought were inflated pots, but the structure means that it doesn’t have to be that way because the structure really does allow you to play.
“I also like the fact that if you make Day 2, you’re already in the money. Especially if you’ve played one of the regional Day 1s and you’ve got the expense of hotel and travel, it’s nice to have already cashed. For me personally, London isn’t too far away for me, but it’s certainly great for people traveling from further away.”
The $1m GTD 888poker WPT500 London had regional Day 1s at Aspers properties in Milton Keynes and Newcastle, as well as two online Day 1s, and Swift says she believes the structure rewards the recreational players and satellite winners.
“If your Day 2 is in a different place and you’ve got to travel, it’s nice to travel having that cushion of already having cashed for some amount. It’s quite nice for someone who’s satellited in. I guess that’s the aim! Reward the recreational players and get them down to London for Day 2 with some money in their pockets!”
