Bubble Boy Brian Patrick Almost Got a Half-Pardon

Aug 23, 2010

After Brian Patrick was eliminated in 46th place, he hung around the area to make sure nobody else would be eliminated on the same hand — which would force two players to chop the prize money for 45th place.

With the board showing [Kd8d3s], David Sands (pictured below in seat 9) and Jeff Clayton (seat 1) slowly and dramatically reraise each other until Clayton moves all in, and Sands calls with [6d3d] (pair of threes, diamond flush draw). Clayton shows [AdKs] for a pair of kings. The two players appear to have nearly even stacks, so it’s not clear who Bubble Boy Brian Patrick is rooting for.

The turn card is the [4c], but the [5d] on the river completes the flush for Sands, who wins the pot. Patrick will pick up more than $5,000 if Sands covers Clayton, so he’s eagerly waiting to see who has more chips.

It turns out that Clayton has slightly more chips (by 35,000), so nobody else busts on the money bubble, officially making Brian Patrick the 46th place finisher.

Oh, and David Sands doubles up.

David Sands  –  415,000  (83 bb)
Jeff Clayton  –  35,000  (7 bb)
Brian Patrick  –  Out in 46th Place
