We caught up with Oman after the end of play a little after 2 am, and here is what he had to say in the winner’s interview.
WPTDeepStacks: You have won not only the last WPTDeepStacks title, but also topped the field in the largest tournament in the history of the Thunder Valley poker room. How does it feel to take down a piece of poker history along with all of the top prize money?
Oman: It feels pretty good to win the largest prize pool at Thunder Valley at WPTDeepStacks.
WPTDeepStacks: You played some long hours during this tournament. How did you keep your focus during all of that action?
Oman: Well I was keeping my focus by just looking at the prize pool. That big number at the top made you be very selective on your hands.
WPTDeepStacks: We definitely had a tale of two tournaments today as the crazy pace at the start of play inevitably shifted to a slower gear at the final table. How were you changing things up to match that changing pace in play?
Oman: I shifted gears and turned over the chip lead multiple times. When I saw people getting more aggressive I decided to just back off and let them take each other out, which they did. Then I basically just went back to playing position and fairly good hands against people who knew I could take advantage of.
WPTDeepStacks: So you’ve been to Thunder Valley a couple of times now coming down from Washington state. What is it about this property that keeps you coming back?
Oman: I think the property here at Thunder Valley is absolutely amazing. The rooms are very nice, it’s in wonderful condition, and the poker room here is just fantastic. The staff here is great, and very hospitable.
Congratulations to our last WPTDeepStacks Champion – Carl Oman!
