Christian Harder Runs Good at Poker, Bad at Prop Bets

Apr 18, 2010

John Juanda raises from the cutoff and Billy Baxter makes it 2,400 to go from the button. Christian Harder calls out of the big blind and John Juanda calls as well.

The flop falls [Kc9c6h] and the action checks to Baxter, who bets 6,000.  Harder calls and Juanda folds.  Both players check after the [2h] hits on the turn, and Harder bets out 7,300 once the [9h] falls on the river.  Baxter calls and mucks when Harder reveals [AhKs] for kings and nines.

Christian Harder – 173,000
Billy Baxter – 145,000

While Harder and Baxter are playing out the hand, the table is informed one of them will be sent over to fill one of the empty seats at a newly-opened table.  Gavin Smith sees a perfect opportunity for a prop bet.

Smith convinces Mike Mustafa and Harder to put up $100 a piece on who of the three of them will draw the highest card.  While they are negotiating the parameters of the bet, Smith goes out on a limb and makes a prediction:

"Not only will I have the highest card between the three of us, I think either Alex Gomes or John Juanda will be the one sent to the other table."

Smith was right on both fronts.  He won the prop bet and picked up $300 and Gomes won the high card and was sent to a new table.  Meanwhile, judging from what Charder was saying at the table, it sounds like this is not the first prop bet he’s lost to Mr. Smith today.
