Dan Smith Makes Brian Schmidt an Offer He Can Refuse

Mar 16, 2011

With 60,000 already in the pot and the board reading [8h7s6d5s], Brian Schmidt checks out of the small blind and Dan Smith bets 29,700 from the button.

Schmidt then check-raises to 70,000 total and Smith takes a minute or two before calling.

The river is the [9c] and Schmidt takes almost no time before announcing that he is all-in, having Smith’s remaining 125,000 covered.

Smith lets out a huge sigh and leans back in his chair.  He buries his face in his hands, looks skywards, and even chuckles to himself a bit as he deliberates for several minutes.

Eventually, another player at the table calls the clock on Smith and he gets all the way down to two seconds before mucking his cards with a pained look on his face.

He asks Schmidt instantly, "How much do I have to pay you to show?"

"Probably a lot."

There is silence for a few seconds as the players move on to the next hand. Smith isn’t quite ready to let go though.

"Are we talking like mid-four figures?"  The table laughs, but Smith isn’t joking around.  "I’m serious."

Brian Schmidt – 460,000
Dan Smith – 125,000
