The sixth flight of WPT500 Montreal kicked off on Sunday evening from the Playground Poker Club as part of the Season XVII WPT Montreal festival that includes the three major components of the World Poker Tour’s offering – WPT500, WPTDeepStacks, and WPT Main Tour.
Day 1F of WPT500 Montreal saw a total of 395 entrants fill the newly expanded section of the tournament hall, and after 16 levels of tournament action, just 76 players would survive into Day 2 to join the 346 players that qualified for Day 2 action either online at partypoker, or from the previous five flights from the Playground Poker Club. Leading today’s flight is Dean Murphy who managed to bag 451,000.
Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Murphy has amassed over $130,000 in lifetime tournament earnings with results stretching back to 2011. Although Murphy has cashes in several countries, his results are mainly Canada-based with his biggest score coming in the WSOP Main Event this year. He also has a fifth-place finish in a WPT Montreal side event several years ago for $22,000.
Andreas K (392,000), Raphael Duval (360,000), Samuel Spiwak (360,000), and Daniel Le (342,000) are the only other players to cross the 300,000-chip threshold while Richard Kirsch (258,000) and Maria Konnikova (199,000) also managed to survive the day. The Day 1F survivors will all return for Day 2 action on Monday, October 29 at 3 p.m. (EDT).
Everyone eliminated throughout the course of the opening flights, or those looking to improve on their end-of-day chip count, will all have a opportunity to play the turbo Day 1G that begins on Monday, October 29, at 10 a.m. (EDT) where levels will be just 15-minutes in length and the day will end just before Day 2 begins.
On Monday, Day 2 will commence at 3 p.m. (EDT) and players will play 12 40-minute levels until play concludes for the day.
