Dustin Mangold Wins WPTDeepStacks Berlin for €134,809

Fittingly, at the final WPTDeepStack event of the season in Berlin, it was German Dustin Mangold who took down the title and €134,809 in prize money after seeing off a field of 561 players.
23-year-old Mangold beat Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni heads-up in the German capital to secure the biggest win of his career in the largest WPTDeepStacks event ever held outside of North America.
Mangold came into the final table eighth in chips, but supported with a card protector with the logo of his favourite German football team, he forged a path to victory and took down the tournament at around 9pm local time.
Runner-up Kunal Patni has played several WPTDS events this season, but couldn’t clinch the title after losing out in some pretty hefty pots during heads-up play.

The day started with 12 players, and it didn’t take long for Zikai Li to head out the door, being eliminated on the very first hand of play. Fabrice Soulier and William Defty followed him out the door to confirm the final table of nine.
The chip leader at this point was Bulent Demirtas, but there were a cluster of players around the 30 big blind mark. It didn’t take long for Demirtas to get deposed at the head of proceedings, with Alescha Lechner doubling through him.
Both Claudio Celenza, Kunal Patni and Adem Gul held the chip lead before the first elimination of the day, which was Demirtas. He ran Ace-Ten into the Ace-Jack of Celenza and was eliminated.
Lechner, start-of day chip leader Finn Zwad and Ricardo Valim were eliminated in a burst of activity in Level 31, which left Kunal Patni in a commanding chip lead. Tobias Mathaess was then sent to the rail to leave the final four with Patni still in the lead.
Celenza was eliminated when Mangold turned a straight against him and when Adem Gul was eliminated just twenty minutes later the heads-up was confirmed.
Patni still held the lead at this point, but in two pivotal hands that lead went. Twice Mangold held top pair, and was paid off on two streets by Patni holding an inferior pair. And in the last hand of the night, Mangold hit a six to river trips, beating the top pair of Patni to take down the event and clinch the title.
