First Hand Straight Flush for Shores

Mar 29, 2014

David Shores is just taking his seat and gathering his 30,000-chip starting stack as Alistair Melville opens with a raise to 300 from middle position. Shores, playing from late position, checks his cards quickly and calls, and Stuart Kerridge calls as well from the big blind.

The flop comes [Qc][Jc][8h] and all three check. The turn is the [7h] and when Kerridge leads with a bet, Melville folds and Shores calls.

The river is the [8c]. Kerridge checks this time, then folds to a small bet from Shores. "Straight flush!" says Shores as he shows his [10c][9c]. "How’s that for a first hand!"

Table talk soon turns to the big Bad Beat Jackpot won here at the Playground Poker Club on Thursday when Richard Fiegel won $157,865 over at the cash tables, the largest share of a BBJ worth over $415K total. Read more about the hand everyone is still talking about here.
