Hands #89-90: Moon Kim Is Asked About Player of the Year

May 24, 2012

Hand #89  –  Michael Mizrachi raises from the cutoff to 115,000, and Marvin Rettenmaier calls from the button. Both players check to the turn on a board of [10c9c7h10h], Mizrachi bets 135,000, and Rettenmaier calls.

The river card is the [Qc], and both players check. Rettenmaier turns over [6c6s] for two pair, tens and sixes, and Mizrachi flashes the [Ah] before he mucks. Marvin Rettenmaier wins the pot.

Hand #90  –  Marvin Rettenmaier raises from the cutoff to 105,000, Moon Kim moves all in for a little more than a million in chips, and Rettenmaier folds. Kim takes the pot.

After the hand, Rettenmaier asks WPT Bay 101 champion Moon Kim, "You don’t care about Player of the Year, do you?" Kim asks, "What’s that?" Rettenmaier seems to wonder for a moment if Kim is serious or not, whether he realizes he is contending for the WPT Player of the Year.

Rettenmaier and Michael Mizrachi point out that if Kim reaches the TV final table, he can tie for WPT Player of the Year with a fourth-place finish, and win it outright with third or higher.
