Bob Courtney raises from middle position preflop and Howard Lederer calls out of the big blind. The flop comes [Js10s6h] and Lederer checks. Courtney bets 15,000 and action is back on Lederer, who is ready with a comment:
"That’s all, just 15,000?" Lederer thinks a minute and starts to move his chips forward in two piles–one with three 5,000 chips to match the call and the other with his remaining 20,900. The dealer stops Lederer and informs him that, because he did not announce raise, it is a string bet. Other players open their mouths to protest, but Lederer stops them.
"It’s alright," he says. The turn brings the [4h] and Lederer moves the rest of his chips in. Courtney starts to think. After a minute or two, Lederer tries to entice him.
"It’s just a nibble," Lederer tells him. "You’ll hardly even feel it."
"This will either be an awful call or a really good call," Courtney responds. Lederer simply laughs and Courtney takes another minute before calling with [AcQs] for ace-high.
Lederer turns over [Qc9h] for an open-ended straight draw. The river brings the [9s], pairing Lederer and giving him the double up.
Howard Lederer – 90,000 (38 big blinds)
Bob Courtney – 248,000 (62 big blinds)
