Zack Bird has drawn a lot of attention to himself here in the first couple of hours with some loud outbursts. The players at his table think he might have even been drunk when he got here.
The recent hand where Matt Brady doubled up a short stack with A-K against 7-7? Bird was razzing Brady after the hand, telling him that ace-king isn’t a real hand and things like that. Brady just quietly took the abuse without responding.
Bird is complaining about the dealer, as he has been throughout the day, and he seems tilted. Without warning, he says he moves all in from the button for 39,600.
The only problem is the hand hasn’t started yet — the dealer is still shuffling. But Bird is apparently serious.
Matt Brady calls a floorperson over for a ruling, and the floor says that as long as there is no raise in front of him to change the action, it is binding action.
When the players get their cards, Brady limps from middle position for 1,200, and Darren Elias limps behind him. Bird is required to move all in from the button. David Diaz tanks for a while in the big blind, but eventually folds. Action is back on Brady, and he goes into the tank.
Bird says, "You gotta call, because this is the worst dealer in the world for me. I brick every hand." Brady continues to think, and Bird adds, "C’mon man, it’s an obvious call."
Brady laughs and says, "You’re not the problem." (Implying that he’s worried about Elias.) Brady tanks a little while more before he calls. Action moves to Elias, and he folds 6-6 face up.
Brady shows [QcQd], and Bird flips over [Jd10c]. Bird says, "You took that long? What were you waiting for, son?"
The board comes [Ah9c8h9s5c], and the pocket queens hold up for Brady to win the pot and double up in chips.
But wait, there’s more. This situation gets even crazier.
Bird acts like he has been eliminated, and gets up to leave. The dealer is counting down the stacks and tells him that he still has some chips left over.
Bird says he doesn’t want them, and he leaves the tournament.
Matt Brady – 73,000 (60 BBs)
Zack Bird – 6,200 (5 BBs)
Bird’s stack is still on the table as he is being blinded out.
