Jerome Sgorrano Bags Three Million to Lead WPTDeepStacks Brussels Main Event Going into Final Day

Nov 11, 2017

Jerome Sgorrano
After ten levels of play on Day 2, it is Belgian player Jerome Sgorrano who is the clear leader of the last 12 players after bagging up 3,090,000 in chips.

Sgorrano is looking to add to earlier success this week, after he took down the WPTDS Five-Card Pot-Limit Omaha event, and is well placed for a repeat in the Main Event. The Belgian is well clear of his nearest competitor popular Brazilian pro Felipe Ramos (1,702,000), Alain Bauer (1,626,000) and Sylvain Naets (1,574,000)

Here is a full list of chip counts:

  • Jerome Sgorrano – 3,090,000
  • Felipe Ramos – 1,702,000
  • Alain Bauer – 1,626,000
  • Sylvain Naets – 1,574,000
  • Laurent Polito – 901,000
  • Leonardo Armino – 855,000
  • Frederic Leonetti – 568,000
  • Olivier Fehlmann – 534,000
  • Frederic Femont – 323,000
  • Bart Fergiatakis – 245,000
  • Jeffrey Jol – 483,000
  • Michel Abecassis – 60,000

One clear outlier is Michel Abecassis, who was unlucky to lose Ace-King vs the Aces of Leonardo Armino to leave the French poker legend with only a handful of chips to compete with ahead of Day 3.

The day started with 123 players, and the field slowly started to disperse as play gradually drew on. The 60-minute levels from Day 2 certainly played a part in the pace of eliminations on Day 2, and it wasn’t until the fourth level of the day until the bubble burst.

Julien Stropoli

On a river of Diamond 3Heart AClub 2Diamond 2Club 7 Julien Stropoli’s Ace-Queen was undone by the Ace-Seven of Laurent Polito, in a hand which would launch Polito to the top of the chip counts.

With the bubble burst, several notable players made exits, including Brian Reinert (43rd – €2,400) and Rex Clinkscales (40th – €2,400). Tobias Peters (33rd – €2,705) picked up valuable points in the WPTDS Player of the Year standings, and is now the only player to have cashed in three events this season. Day 1C chip leader Yang Yimin was also eliminated in 22nd place (€3,485).

The remaining 12 players will return at 13:30 local time here at the Grand Casino Brussels to play down until a winner is reached. That winner will take home €90,000 which includes a package to WPTDeepStacks Berlin which will take place in January.
