Kia Mohajeri vs. Kirk Morrison, and Antonio's Friend's Uncle

Dec 6, 2010

Kirk Morrison raises from late position to 40,000, and Kia Mohajeri calls from the cutoff. The flop comes [Kd9d3h], Morrison checks, and Mohajeri bets 100,000. Morrison asks Mohajeri if his sunglasses are part of the pot, and Mohajeri takes them off as if to bet them and then says, "I can’t, I need them to see." Morrison says, "Okay, okay. I call."

The turn card is the [4c], and Morrison quickly checks, which has been his modus operandi most of the night when he’s first to act. Mohajeri bets 150,000, and then Morrison starts tank-talking. (It’s hard to write down everything that Morrison says, because it’s a nearly constant stream.)

While Morrison is talking, Mohajeri says he’ll add his sunglasses to the pot this time, but it’s clear that he’s joking. Morrison looks at the board and says, "Wait, I still have one card to come. I could get there." Mohajeri says, "So could I."

After a little more tank-talk, Andy Frankenberger calls for a clock. Morrison says, "Uh-oh, I’ve made somebody mad." Frankenberger says, "I’m not mad, I just want to play some cards." A floorperson arrives to begin the one-minute countdown.

Morrison keeps talking, and Mohajeri says, "Why do I feel like you’re in my head?" Morrison tank-talks a bit more and then folds.

Mohajeri flips over [Jd10d] for a gutshot straight draw, and Morrison says, "What? You dirty bastard!" He’s smiling when he says it, and Mohajeri laughs.

Kia Mohajeri  –  1,690,000  (105 bb)
Kirk Morrison  –  1,200,000  (75 bb)

As Mohajeri is pulling in the pot, Morrison says, "You’re lucky he called the clock on me. With enough time, I think I call there."

That action ends the hand, but a minute or two later, Mohajeri turns to Antonio Esfandiari (seated next to him) and tells him that he’s his best friend’s uncle. Antonio is astounded, and asks why he didn’t say anything earlier. Mohajeri says he didn’t want to distract Antonio while playing, but now that they’ve been seated next to each other for a little while, he broke the ice. Antonio is sincerely excited, and tells everyone nearby, "Kia is my best friend’s uncle!"
