Local Boy Takes The Chip Lead

Apr 10, 2012

Local boy Alex Varga has just taken the chip lead here at WPT Vienna.

He is sharing a table with the likes of McLean Karr, Bodo Sbrzesny and Joel Dodds but it was Matt Kay who decided to donate the majority of his stack to Varga.

We join the action on a diamond studded flop – [Ad] [8d] [5d] – and Kay announces he is all-in. Varga looks visibly shocked, and he should be, because Kay has Varga covered meaning the call is a do or die decision. After very little thought, Varga makes the call and turns over [Td] [3d] and Kay rather sheepishly exposes the [Ac] [5c].

The turn [Qc] and river [3c] mean nothing and Varga now has 90,000 chips. Kay has a headache and 16,000 chips.
