An exciting day’s play here at the Casino de Marrakech saw 156 players advanced to Day 2 of the PMU.fr WPTDeepStacks Marrakech Main Event. A whopping 433 players came together to create the largest WPTDeepStacks field outside of North America, as many players took advantage of the unlimited re-entries on offer.

One of those players was Romain Lewis who fired four times, including immediately after entering the tournament for the first time. He raised with Kings and was three-bet. He then four-bet and his opponent moved all in. Lewis called and was shown Aces. Although he ran up a stack in subsequent bullets, he dwindled to bust before the end of the day.

PMU had several Team Pros in the Main Event including Francois Tosques and Sarah Herzali, but come the end of the day it was Johan Guilbert who was the last PMU Team Pro standing.

“It’s cool!” said Guilbert, “I’m happy but I’m sad for my friends. We’re all friends. We’ve been friends for a long time, even before PMU. They were unlucky today, so I’m happy to be lucky and to still be in.

“My table was good, I think. There were a lot of qualifiers so it was a good table for me. I finished 4th in the High Roller yesterday, so here in the Main Event I want to finish at least third!”

Hideki Takafuji

Also advancing to Day 2 is Japanese player Hideki Takafuji, although with a short stack of only 20 big blinds.

“It’s been up and down,” he said, “This table has been very friendly, but my first table was very tough. 20 big blinds for tomorrow. Hopefully I get a good night’s sleep!”

Leading the players into Day 2 is Ludovic Moryousef with a whopping 375,000 in chips. In one of the last hands of the night he scored a huge doubled up with Spade QDiamond Q on a Club ADiamond 4Club QHeart KSpade 9 against an opponent who had flopped a smaller set with Club 4Spade 4 that doubled is stack of around 180,000 to well over 350,000, taking the chip lead away from the likes of Michel Leibgorin and Belmehel Dja Daouadji.

Day 2 gets underway on Saturday the 7th October at midday here at the Casino de Marrakech. The prizepool and payouts are yet to be confirmed, and we will get them to you as soon as they are made available to us.

Stay tuned for full chip counts from Day 1 and to WPT.com for all further updates from Marrakech.
