Dutch poker player and commentator Mark Roovers tweeted that he had chipped up shortly before the last break in his first orbit, and when we finally caught up with him he filled us in.
“I won a small pot with King-Queen suited firsrt hand, then second hand I picked up Aces, and this guy bluffed the river for some reason. So I won a decent pot there.
“Then next hand I got a flush for a small pot, and then the very next hand I flopped two-pair with Six-Five suited. I rivered a full house and this guy bet and I shoved over the top and he tank-folded.”
We asked Roovers whether he liked having these early chips and whether that would set him up for the rest of the day.
“No, not really. You kind of need this rush in the latter stages I guess. I try not to have a plan because I feel like it’s bad to set yourself with certain goals. I’ve learned that it doesn’t really matter how big your stack is at a certain point so long as you’re still in!”
