Last year Mathieu Selides final-tabled the WPTNational Marrakech High Roller where he finished sixth for €11,504. Over his poker career he has played WPT events in Belgium, France and the United States, but he always comes back to Marrakech.
“There’s just a lot of great stuff here!” said Selides when we asked him “Like the pool, the weather, and mostly it’s because the tournaments are always at the right time.
“There’s a good service, food and everything is really good. I like it here, that’s why I always come back.”
Selides is mostly a Texas Hold’em player, and that is why he prioritises the Main Events and High Rollers at these festivals.
“I don’t play the side events, but I know a lot of players enjoy them. I think they definitely attract more people because some people specialise in those. Or they just want to have fun. So they come and play those tournaments, maybe them and the Main Event or try and satellite in.
“The best thing is that there are a lot of players. At the WPTDeepStacks and other big tournaments you get French people, Spanish people – it’s nice to see these people again. And the tournaments are good, with good structures and big fields. That’s really cool.”
