The affable Matt Stout is always quick to make friends at the table and today is no exception. Stout’s newest pal is Tom Noyes, an 82 year-old player who began the day on Stout’s immediate left. Their table has since broken, but Noyes is no worse for the wear. He is currently at a table with the likes of Justin Smith, Joe Udine, and Tom Marchese and seems to be making a similarly lasting impression on them.
On the final hand before the break, Noyes made a slightly larger than pot-sized shove all-in for his last 27,700 on a board of [Ts7d4h]. Marchese tanks for several minutes, trying to get a reaction from his mysterious opponent.
"Do you want a call?"
"Doesn’t matter," Noyes responds with a shrug. He sits there in silence as Marchese thinks for a few more minutes before mucking his hand.
Smith is curious to hear what Noyes had and asks him more than once, "Did you have it this time?" Noyes doesn’t respond, as he is busy tipping the cocktail waitress who has arrived with his Bloody Mary.
The table continues to prod Noyes for his holdings. Udine makes another suggestion. "If I guess one hand and it is what you had, will you tell me?"
Noyes doesn’t appease them with a response, but he does offer them a clue:
"I play a lot of blackjack," he says cryptically. "There was a seven on board…What do three sevens add up to?"
