River Sinks Perper

We arrive on a [10d][8h][2d] flop to see action check around to Antonio Esfandiari on the button who bets 1,500 and only Daniel Perper calls from the big blind. The turn is the [Qs], and Perper check-calls another bet from Esfandiari, this one for 3,500.

The river brings the [6d] and another check from Perper. Esfandiari sets out a stack of about 15,000 — a bit more than Perper has left — and the latter calls once more. Esfandiari tables [9c][7h] for a rivered straight, and his hand is best as Perper takes his leave.

"Thank God I got there," says Esfandiari afterwards as he scoops the chips. "Thank you for the six," he adds with a nod toward the dealer.
