Scotty Nguyen Doubles Through Maroun Jazzar

Apr 20, 2010

After a flop of [Qc8h3h], Maroun Jazzar (small blind) and Scotty Nguyen (late position) both contribute 50,000 into the pot. The turn card is the [6c], Jazzar checks, and Nguyen moves all in for 144,000. Jazzar thinks for about 15 seconds before he calls.

Before the cards are shown, Hellmuth asks, "Aces, Scotty?" Jazzar shows [10c10s], and Nguyen turns over [KcKh]. Hellmuth says, "I had black nines. My hand." (When Hellmuth won the 1989 WSOP Main Event, he had two black nines in the final hand.)

The river card is the [9h], and Scotty Nguyen wins the hand with his pocket kings. Hellmuth says, "Oh! I would’ve made it!" Nguyen laughs as he collects the pot.

Scotty Nguyen  –  472,000  (78 bb)
Maroun Jazzar  –  370,000  (61 bb)

Hellmuth says, "Three hours I’ve been sitting here waiting to get chips, and I lay down pocket nines. But that’s okay, Scotty. You’ve been playing well. You deserve it." Nguyen says, "Thank you, baby."

Phil Hellmuth  –  410,000  (68 bb)
