The current frontrunner in the Hublot WPT Player of the Year race Ben Zamani began Day 2 in the field with a short stack, but he was one of the early casualties, along with James Romero and Ryan Tosoc. Those are two fewer players who could pick up important points in the increasingly more competitive contest.
Right now there are six players who could pass Zamani in the race still in the field at this tournament and the one who has the shortest way to go to do it is also the biggest stack.
Just before break, Shooting Star Mike Sexton (pictured) doubled up to 123,000 chips, which helps boost his chances to move from second to first in this event. He can take the lead in the race with an eighth-place finish or better, which is something Sexton has done before. He made his first-ever WPT final table here in Season IX, finishing sixth.
There are some other contenders to keep an eye on still alive in the field too though. Here is a look at the other contenders, how many chips they have, and what they need to do to take the lead from Zamani:
Daniel Strelitz – 83,500 – Needs fourth or better
Shooting Star Jesse Sylvia – 78,000 – Needs to win
Pat Lyons – 95,000 – Needs to win
Andjelko Andrejevic – 63,000 – Needs to win
Sam Panzica and Niall Farrell are also still alive in the Day 2 field and a victory here would put them just 50 points behind Zamani in the standings.
