Shooting Star Marvin Rettenmaier Gets Clocked

Cappello thinks for about a minute, then silently sets the bulk of his chips in front of him, putting Rettenmaier to an all-in decision for his remaining 16,300 or so.

Rettenmaier agonizes over his decision for several minutes. He shakes his hands and mouths “Why?” as he continues to deliberate. The cameras gather around the table as the first Shooting Star of the day faces possible elimination.

“Sorry,” Rettenmaier tells the table. “I really have a good hand.” He pauses, then asks the dealer, “Can I re-enter today?” Rettenmaier is told he can re-enter once total, not once per day, then goes back to deliberating.

Eventually someone at the table calls the clock on Rettenmaier and Tournament Director Matt Savage reports to the table. He is a little surprised his services are needed.

Savage asks, “The first level?”

“Yes,” Rettenmaier emphatically replies.

“Fine,” Savage responds. Savage gets on the mic to announce the action to the fans and counts down to zero. Rettenmaier’s hand is dead.

“You can see one,” Cappello offers Rettenmaier. He pushes his cards Rettenmaier’s way and Rettenmaier turns over the .
