There has always been quite a bit of overlap between Silicon Valley and the poker world. Pros like Barry Greenstein and Chris Ferguson dabbled in the computer world and the poker world. Poker pros like Joe Sebok and Doyle Brunson have taken to social media and are some of the more popular people on Twitter.
With so much in common and so much overlap, it only makes sense that the two worlds meet at one of the poker meccas in the Silicon Valley, the Bay 101 Casino. While the stakes may not be as high as tomorrow’s Shooting Star event, there is still pride on the line here at the Silicon Valley Poker Challenge.
There are around fifty pros and business executives taking part in this event, which is sponsored by the Albertini Group and BUILD, a non-profit organization that uses entrepreneurship to engage low income high school students and curb drop out rates. Some of the notable bountys in the field include Dan Cates, Joe Sebok, Erik Seidel, Justin Smith, Kara Scott, Maria Ho, the WPT’s own Raw Deal Correspondent Tony Dunst.
Dwte Pilgrim is another bounty in the field, but his attention will be divided between the tournament and his big television premiere, as the first of the two Borgata Poker Open WPT episodes premieres on FSN tonight at 8PM.
Players are currently taking their seats and play should be underway shortly. There is a rebuy period during the first hour of this event.
