Ted Lawson Eliminated; Aces Are Cracked in a Crazy Hand

Allen Kessler stopped by media row to report a crazy hand at his table. 

Bobby Suer raises to 550, Kessler calls, and Aaron Schaff puts out two chips — a 1,000 and a 25. Two players fold before Will Failla asks the dealer what the action is. The dealer says that Schaff just called the 550. Failla argues that it should be a raise, since he used two chips. After a bit of argument, somebody suggests that they ask Schaff what he said when he put out the two chips, but Schaff says he doesn’t remember. 

Ted Lawson asks the dealer to call a floorperson for a ruling. After hearing the circumstances, the floorperson rules it a call since two players have already acted by folding. 

Lawson reraises to 2,550, and Suer says he doesn’t trust the situation because the hand is developing in a very strange way, and he shows his cards to the player next to him before folding. (The player later confirmed Suer’s story that he folded J-J.) Kessler folds behind Suer. 


Schaff reraises to 10,000, Lawson reraises to 25,000, and Schaff six-bets all in. Lawson calls with A-A, and Schaff turns over Q-Q.

The flop and the turn come out safe a for Lawson’s aces, but the river card is a Q, giving Schaff a set of queens to win the pot. Their chip stacks are counted down, and Schaff barely covers Lawson, eliminating him from the tournament.
