The Perfect Bet? 20K Into a 250K Pot by James Carroll

Feb 28, 2011

After a flop of [6d3c2d], James Carroll checks the small blind, Joe Hachem checks the big blind, and Derek Gregory bets 40,000 from the button. Carroll calls, and Hachem folds.

The turn card is the [10d], putting three diamonds on the board. Carroll bets 82,000, and Gregory calls.

The river card is the [4d], putting four diamonds on the board, and Carroll bets 20,000 into a pot worth more than 250,000. Gregory tanks for more than a minute before he calls, and Carroll confidently turns over [5d5s] for a five-high diamond flush. Gregory sits stunned for a moment, neither turning over his cards nor mucking them. After 10-15 seconds, Gregory mucks, and he seems visibly frustrated as James Carroll wins the pot.
